Between sleeping in my car and sitting in my car beating myself up over June McCawley…I’ve spent way too much time in here.

Now, instead of the Walmart parking lot, I’m parked in front of Beau’s house, trying to find the will to go in and face him after I just tried to suck his sister’s face right off in front of the entirety of Maple Creek. I know Beau well enough that I like him but not well enough to know whether or not he’s the kind of guy to punch sister-kissers.

But fuck…it would be worth getting pummeled into the earth to have kissed her like that just one time. To have her lips on mine and her soft body pliant in my hands, I’d do it again a thousand times over.

I was so shocked to see her standing in my line. I spent the majority of the time before kissing her thinking about what it was going to be like kissing her. Whether she’d make it difficult or if she would melt into me. Before she got in line, I’d just had about a million middle-aged moms who very obviously just wanted to switch it up a little bit by playing a game of “kiss the miscreant” before they went home to their families. I kissed a lot of waxy lipsticks off of mouths that were twice my age. And then June appeared in that cherry red dress with her hair in loose waves. She looked so goddamn beautiful, and she was all I could think about. But really, what else is new?

When she climbed those stairs and came face to face with me, I could have never imagined what was about to happen. Ever since that kiss began, it has felt unfinished. Obviously, we were interrupted by a couple dozen townspeople who couldn’t leave well enough alone. But I mean unfinished in the way of…I’m not sure if I’ll ever be done kissing June. There’s certainly not ever going to be enough of her or her sweet mouth.

And that just really conflicts with my plans.

First of all, there was never supposed to be any June at all. I swear to God, if I had known Mark McCawley had a daughter who looked like June, I wouldn’t have even stopped to apply. I have gone so far out of my way to avoid bumps in the road, things that would keep me from getting to my destination. Why would I risk it all just for some girl?

Then again, June has never been just a girl. Not now. Not then. Even though I wished so badly that she was.

Now I’ve really gotten myself in a mess.

“Nash! The fuck are you doing creepin’ around outside my house?! Come in, you fuckin’ weirdo!”

Beau is yelling at me from the front porch of his large, beautiful farmhouse. He’s obviously had a few beers judging by how boisterous that was, and I hope the beers have put him in a good mood.

Once I’m inside, I take a second to admire the place.
